General assistants are excellent. Your spec book needs something narrower.
All three are excellent general assistants. knowledgeXpert does a narrower job on purpose: cited answers over the technical documents your team controls, traced to the exact page, and “not in your records” instead of a confident guess.
Why constraint matters more than capability
ChatGPT, Claude and Copilot are built to answer anything. Engineering questions are narrower: which revision governs this joint? What does the code clause actually say? An answer that is nearly right and confidently worded is worse than no answer, because someone acts on it.
Every vendor in the category says as much in its own documentation, verify outputs, check before
relying on them. Microsoft simply put it most plainly, in its guidance for the Excel
COPILOT() function.
Don't use it “for any task requiring accuracy or reproducibility.”
Microsoft's own documentation for the Excel COPILOT() function, which names
numerical calculations, financial reporting and legal documents among the tasks to avoid.
That's an honest description of a general assistant, and exactly the line technical work sits on the wrong side of. What that work needs is constraint: a corpus limited to approved documents, every answer cited to its source page, and an explicit “not in your records” when the answer isn't there. That's the governed end of the AI knowledge base category, and the whole design of knowledgeXpert.
knowledgeXpert vs. ChatGPT, Claude and Copilot

What changes when the answer has to survive review.
Cited, or it doesn't ship
Every answer names its source document and page, and viewXpert opens that page so you read the clause yourself.
Governed access to your corpus
knowledgeBases hold only approved revisions, with role-based access. Single-tenant, air-gapped on-prem available, SOC 2 Type II and ISO 27001.
Built for the actual workflow
Agentic Apps produce the deliverable, not a chat reply, a spec cross-reference, an audit evidence pack, a cited quote.
Who this fits, and who it doesn't
If you need a general-purpose assistant, drafting, code, slides, thinking out loud, ChatGPT, Claude or Copilot is the better buy, and we'd say so on the call. knowledgeXpert doesn't do general productivity, and teams that adopt it keep their existing assistant for everything else.
knowledgeXpert is for the other case: defensible, cited answers over your own controlled documents, oil & gas teams answering to codes and inspectors, technical sales desks where the spec on the quote must match the catalog. The test: if someone downstream asks “where did that come from?” and a chat screenshot isn't an acceptable answer, you need the governed shape.

Straight answers.
Why not just upload our documents to a general assistant?
For a handful of files, that works fine. Regulated technical work needs three more things: one approved corpus with an owner and current revisions, role-based control over who can ask what, and citations to the exact page so an answer is checkable rather than merely plausible.
We already pay for ChatGPT, Claude or Copilot. Why add knowledgeXpert?
Most teams run both. Your assistant stays where it’s strong, everyday drafting, mail and meetings. knowledgeXpert covers the corpus where a wrong answer is expensive: specs, codes, integrity reports, SOPs, catalogs. Different jobs; they don’t conflict.
Can it run entirely inside our network?
Yes, single-tenant by default, and fully air-gapped on-prem on your own hardware, so documents never leave the building. SOC 2 Type II and ISO 27001, and your data never trains public models.
How do we test this against the assistant we already have?
Take a question your team asked an assistant recently where the answer needed to be right, and bring the documents that actually settle it. Run it here and look at what comes back with it: which page each line came from, and whether it tells you which parts your sources do not cover. That is the whole comparison, and it takes one meeting. We are updating our pricing and will publish the new structure shortly; a walkthrough gets you current figures.
Keep your assistant. Add answers you can defend.
Thirty minutes, your specs and records, every answer traced to the exact page.
